It started with making my 1st hat at the age of 18. I was blessed to have a wonderful open-minded mother who would support everything or idea i would have.  She brought me to a store that made customized hats. I picked out a hemp hat. I Had the words Dank Nugs embroidered on the front. I found a Maple leaf in their catalog (which was as close as I could find for what I was trying to achieve) and had that embroidered on the back. This was my 1st Dank Nugs apparel.  I loved the fact that it represented who I was, while still being discreet. I remember at age 18. Meeting the love of my life's mother for the 1st time. During our 1st conversation she asked me who was Dank nugs? Is it a band? I cautiously replied yeah with a slight head nod. It's a band.  Although I did not like to mislead her, I also did not want the fact of this lifestyle and passion I had for cultivating fine cannabis (yes, at age 15) to have any ill effect on the chances of her daughter and I being together. Considering our age and that in 1997 this was not as acceptable as today.
